Sydney Autumn Carnival
The Sydney Autumn Carnival is the New South Wales’ premiere racing carnival and their equivalent to the Melbourne Spring Carnival. Some of the richest and most prestigious races on the Australian racing calendar are held during this time. It officially begins on March 20 and wraps up on April 14th, but the action really beings in early February, as shown on the calendar below.
The carnival is run by two racing clubs, those being the Australian Jockey Club with those races at Randwick and Warwick Farm, while the Sydney Turf Club run races at Rosehill and Canterbury. Each track has their own mini carnival, with multiple Group 1 races in each.
The racing doesn’t just stop in Metropolitan Sydney, there are country race clubs holding meetings each weekend and throughout the week, such as the Keith Nolan Classic at Kembla Grange, or the Newcastle Newmarket Handicap at Newcastle.
