SAJC Goodwood

This Sunday sees the running of the Group 1 SAJC Goodwood at Morphettville. It is one of the bigger races on the South Australia racing calendar with $300,000 in prize money up for grabs. Its raced over 1200m and is run under set weights and penalties conditions.

2010 Goodwood Race Preview (Race 7, 3:55pm)

The race usually attracts a strong field and 2010 appears to be no different. Catapulted ($3.60) has been installed as favourite. This quality gelding has had an impressive start to his career winning 7 of 11 and a second. He is the track lover in this race, winning 5 of 7 here and is 4 from 4 over this distance. He’s certainly the benchmark in this race and the $3.60 on offer is a good price.

Very Discreet ($21.00) is our top rated horse at 180 on RacingZone.com.au and is the value bet. She is a very good mare and is coming into the race on some good form. She has a record of 2-1-1 from 6 starts at the track and knows how to win over the distance. She had a few troubles in the RN Irwin after starting as favourite, so will want to improve on that performance.

Captain Coltish ($9.50) is stepping up in class here, but it is hard to argue his form. He won the Schweppes Trophy by a length. It’s his first start at Morphettville, but he has a record of 4-2-1 from 8 starts at the distance.

Of the others, we like Rostova ($8.00). She has won her only start at Morphettville, that being the Robert Sangster. She has had a solid autumn campaign and will be a danger here. Velocitea ($6.00) cannot be written off either, she ran second in the Sangster and won the JRA Stakes two back. She is 3-4-1 from 11 at the distance.

Sydney Cup Betting

It’s the Sydney Cup this weekend at Randwick and we’ve got a pretty solid field taking the turf. The race is an open handicap held over a distance of 3200 metres (same as the Melbourne Cup) and is held the same day as three other Group 1 events in the All Aged Stakes, Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Champagne Stakes.

2010 Sydney Cup Preview

Divine Rebel (117) and Jessicabeel (112) are our two highest ranked horses using our unique RacingZone Rating. The value could be with Jessicabeel ($6.50), she is the favourite in an open field and has hardly put a foot wrong this campaign. She won the Chairmans Handicap last start by 2 lengths which is an ideal lead up race, but the distance could be a query.

Divine Rebel ($14.00) is certainly a value bet if our ratings are anything to go by. she has been unable to repeat her fabulous autumn campaign of 2009 so far this campaign with a fourth in the Sunline Stakes her best effort. She has a good record at Randwick and finished second in the Sydney Cup last year, she has to be considered, but probably a better each way bet.

Zavite ($7.00) is another to be considered. He is in super form winning over 3200m by 3 lengths two starts back in the Auckland Cup, then backing that up with a second in the G1 BMW. He is the distance lover in this race having won twice over the trip, but Randwick form is a concern with only 1 win in 8 attempts.

Of the others, I rate Harris Tweed ($12.00) a place shot. He ran third in the Chairmans last start and has been in the money each start at the track. He ran fifth in the Melbourne Cup so knows how to run this distance. Booming ($12.00) is another who can run the distance, running second to Zavite in the Auckland Cup two back, then backing that up with a third here at Randwick in the JRA Plate.
