Port Adelaide v Sydney

Sydney makes the trip to AAMI Stadium to take on Port Adelaide in what is likely to be a cold and wet encounter. Sydney are holding down seventh while the Power will be looking to break back into the eight.

Port Adelaide put in a far more determined effort against the Hawks however despite having their chances went down by 11 points at the MCG. A poor first half left the Power down by 27 points, a margin they were always going to struggle to reel in. The Power have struggled in recent times against the Swans, five consecutive defeats including two at AAMI Stadium. Port need more from the likes of David Rodan, Jason Davenport and Travis Boak in the midfield if they are to beat the Swans.

A Jude Bolton inspired 26 contested possessions lead the Swans to a thrilling 9 point victory against the Bombers at the SCG. Shane Mumford continued his strong form in the ruck and will hold down a key role against Ports Dean Brogan. Sydney could also see the return of Tadhg Kennelly and Ben McGlynn however forward Daniel Bradshaw looks set to spend another week on the side lines. Sydney’s tough contested game style should be able to overcome a relatively inexperienced Power outfit.

Would be hard to go for the Power in this game, Sydney play AAMI Stadium well and have been a more consistent performer this season.

Certainly not a vintage Randwick Guineas, but a competitive race none the less. I fancy the bulk of the field could develop into handy stayers.

That said, the favourite Shoot Out possesses genuine brilliance and finishes off his races like a sprinter-miler. The Queenslander hit the line brilliantly in the Hobartville Stakes, and to my eye, looks the bet of the day in Sydney.

The Gai Waterhouse trained Viking Legend is tough as teak, and although 1600 metres is short of his best distance, he’s been racing well since resuming from a spell and will be very hard to run past from an inside draw.

Hanks is a talented horse but will get a long way back and might need further to be considered a winning chance. Monton, winner of the Hobartville, was suited by the fast lane and on speed bias last start, but will go forward from a wide draw and sit on speed.

In summary, the top pick is a standout, but it’s anyone’s guess for the minors.

Denman

Form analysts at IASbet.com believe that the Peter Snowden trained superstar Denman is vulnerable in Saturday’s Group One Australian Guineas and are prepared to take him on.

While other bookmakers and the TAB have him between $1.55 and $1.65, IASbet.com is willing and able to lay him at $1.80.

“It’s not a foregone conclusion, there is rain forecast and the race may well be set up for horses to run over him. I expect Denman to lead from his outside barrier and it may not be an advantage to be on the rail” said IASBet’s John Dow.

The son of Lonhro has won nine of his last ten with his only defeat being at the same distance in the Caulfield Guineas. “I think history is about to repeat itself.” said Dow.
