JJ Liston Stakes

The JJ Liston Stakes is one of the first major races of the season in Melbourne, before the start of the Melbourne Spring Carnival. The race is ran at Caulfield over 1,400m, for 3 year olds and over. It carries a decent prize purse of $200,000.
As the race is run so early in the season, you might not necessarily see the cream of the crop running here, as they will be prepped for the bigger races during the carnival to come soon.
Having said that, some truly great horses have won this race over the years, more recently Predatory Pricer, Light Fantastic, Apache Cat and Pompeii Ruler. It is the perfect lead up race to races such as the G2 Makybe Diva Stakes and G2 Memsie Stakes

Spotting Potential Winners
Look for horses who have performed well in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes a couple of weeks prior, over a slightly shorter 1,200 at Caulfield. Lots of runners will try and capitalise early season and run well in both of these races.
