Carlton takes on Sydney at Etihad Stadium on Sunday in a must win game for both sides. Carlton sit seventh one spot behind the Swans with a win for either side almost certainly cementing September action.

Carlton Captain Chris Judd has declared his side doesn’t deserve to finish in the top four after they were smashed by 68 points against the Western Bulldogs. Judd has labelled his side as inconsistent and believes supporters have the right to expect more. Their record against the Blues is dominant in recent times however they did lose by ten goals to the Blues in round 16 last season at Etihad Stadium.

With both sides finals aspirations on the line you would expect a fierce encounter, despite having the home ground advantage the Blues are lacking a forward line capable of kicking a winning score, in their win last season it was Brendan Fevola kicking five goals, the Blues are seemingly struggling to replace his presence while the Swans are hitting form at the business end of the season.

To wrap up round fifteen Carlton hosts the Western Bulldogs in a twilight game at Etihad Stadium on Sunday night. Both sides sit on eight wins and a loss for either side will just about rule out a top four chance.

The yellow and black army are on the march and although no chance of September action they can have a significant hand is shaping it, in their way will be the fourth place Fremantle side who continue to impress after finishing fourteenth last season.

St Kilda v Melbourne

Melbourne will look to take on the almost impossible task of defeating the Saints at Etihad Stadium in the twilight Sunday game. The Demons have showed plenty this season and will be hoping the Saints physical encounter last week will catch the Saints off guard.

St Kilda turned last weeks game on its head against the Cats at the MCG on Friday night, down by 16 points at half time the Saints applied a strangle hold on the game to run out 24 point winners and in the process restricting the Cats to just three points in the second half. As you would expect the Saints have dominated in recent years winning four of their last five encounters and they should be to strong against the young Demons.

Melbourne started the year as a real suprise to most but have since faded wining just one of their last five encounters although they did play out a draw against Collingwood. Last round they went down to the Crows by 44 points in a lack lusture performance. They will again be without skipper James McDonald while Col Sylvia continues to be hampered by a foot infection. The Demons have not beaten the Saints since 2006 and will need to put the Saints under pressure early to have any chance.

You would expect the Saints to win this game with ease, we expect the Demons to come out firing but again fall short.

Pies v Dogs

Without doubt the game of the round at the Docklands on Sunday afternoon has the third placed Collingwood taking on the fifth place Western Bulldogs, an important game for both sides with the top four starting to take shape.

Collingwood suffered their second consecutive loss going down to a determined Brisbane side at the Gabba, Pies coach Mick Malthouse was critical of his forward line and has subsequently added Leon Davis and Paul Medhurst to and extended squad however a number of Pies are under fitness clouds. Although the Pies have only won two of their last five encounters they did defeat the Bulldogs by six goals in round one this season.

Western Bulldogs seem to have lost their way going down to the Bombers by nine points with poor foot skills the catalyst for the loss. As expected Jason Akermanis will miss through injury although the controversy surrounding his media role has been the subject of a lot of controversy and may disrupt the Bulldogs performance.  The Dogs need to win this game, they are already one game out of the top four and won’t want to drop to many more if they are to challenge in September.

As the odds suggest this game should be close, despite losing their last two Collingwood’s form has been better than the Bulldogs.

Roos v Lions

Kangaroos take on Brisbane at Docklands on Saturday with both sides struggling through injuries. The Roos made a crucial selection error last week while the Lions ended a five game losing streak.

Kangaroos made the mistake of playing four tall’s on the open plains of Subiaco last week and paid the price as the Dockers hammered the Roos by 70 points. The loss was further compounded with another broken foot to Drew Petrie ruling him out for up to six weeks. The Roos have lost their last two against the Lions however will be boosted by the return of Daniel Wells.

Brisbane started the season in top form winning their first four games before injury and poor form sent the Lions on five straight losses, last week they bounced back in a spirited performance to down the Pies in a thriller at the Gabba. Importantly for the Lions utility Jared Brennan returns from injury in a game the Lions need to win to give them a chance at a possible top four finals spot.

If the Lions can produce the form that got them across the line last week they should win, difficult to see who will stop Brown and Fevola.

Tigers v Saints

Richmond go into Friday night’s clash against St Kilda full of confidence after an inspiring win on the road in terrible conditions at AAMI Stadium. The Saints continue to hang on to the top four despite their lack of forward options.

The Tigers belted out the song last week in passionate style after a 47 point belting of Port Adelaide in monsoon like conditions. St Kilda continues to solder on despite a forward line without Nick Reiwoldt and inconsistent Justin Koschitke failing to fire. Last week they disposed of the Crows in a dominant last quarter with midfielder Leigh Montagna racking up 38 touches and kicking 5 goals. The Saints haven’t lost to the Tigers since 2003 and you would suggest things are not going to change anytime soon.

The Tigers will no doubt have a crack in this one but the Saints are polished outfit despite their forward line concerns and will get the job done.

Blues v Eagles

Carlton takes on West Coast at Docklands on Sunday afternoon with both sides looking to bounce back from disappointing losses. The Eagles hold the ascendency in recent times, can they pull off an upset?

Saints v Crows

St Kilda host Adelaide at Docklands on Saturday night on the back of another horror week for the Saints with their players again in the media while for the Crows veteran Tyson Edwards has walked out on the Crows after being dropped for this week’s game.

St Kilda continue to limp on this season but will be boosted by the sights of their Skipper Nick Reiwoldt jogging laps around Morabbin for the first time since suffering a severe hamstring injury. After two disappointing losses the Saints rebounded last week to defeat the Eagles. For the Saints they have won their last four against the Crows but again will need to mix their forward line around to kick a winning score.

Adelaide looked a far better side last week defeating the Lions by twelve points however things are seemingly unstable with veteran Tyson Edwards walking out on the club over selection issues. Skipper Simon Goodwin has announced his retirement at the end of the season and will be desperate for one last crack at a finals campaign.

Will be interesting to see how both sides react to another week in the spotlight, Adelaide have plenty to play for while the Saints need to keep in touch with the top four and play their best footy under the roof at Docklands.

St Kilda v Fremantle

Amazing to think both sides go into this game unbeaten considering the Saints are missing a number of key players and the Dockers struggled for much of last season.

St Kilda won last week but the cost was huge with skipper Nick Reiwoldt suffering a severe hamstring injury which will see him miss up to 16 weeks. Sam Fisher also suffered an ankle injury and Lenny Hayes a broken nose in a bruising encounter against the Pies although both have been listed to play.

Brendon Goddard looms as a likely saviour up forward while surprisingly young forward Rhys Stanley has been named as an emergency with Clarke Raphael Clarke replacing Reiwoldt. The Saints will be hoping an impressive home record against the Dockers who are yet to win at Docklands will continue but they will need to change their game plan without their inspirational skipper and second tall Justin Koschitzke.

It wasn’t long ago Mark Harvey was in the firing line as the next coach to be sacked, footy is a strange game, the Dockers are second on the ladder after last week defeating last year’s premier Geelong, have unearthed a wealth of talent including mature recruit Michael Barlow who was tagged by Cameron Ling in just his third career match.

The Dockers seemed to have turned a corner and according to coach Mark Harvey obtained their licence last week against the Cats, importantly Chris Tarrant returns to cover the injured Nick Suban, can they chalk up a fourth consecutive with this season and their best start since they entered the competition in 1995 and importantly have their first win against the Saints since round 9, 2007?

Everything points to a Dockers win in this game but can they continue to play their attacking high pressure game style against a proven, yet battered and depleted Saints side. Would be a brave bet going against the Saints.
