Melbourne will take on North Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday in the last home and away game of season 2010, both sides have shown they have talent for the future but a win would be a major boost to both sides going into season 2010.

Melbourne travelled to AAMI Stadium last week and their travelling demons continued to haunt them as they went down by 29 points. Cameron Bruce had his best game for the season with 39 disposals while young forward Liam Jurrah excited the crowd with four goals and a likely winner for mark of the year. The match marks the end of an era for Melbourne Skipper James McDonald who will retire after 251 games. The Demons will be desperate to win for their skipper but they will have to overcome a poor record against the Kangaroos that includes seven straight losses.

Despite the disappointment of results not falling their way North Melbourne were able to overcome a desperate Eagles side on the weekend and will be looking to finish their season on a high. Brad Scott has deemed their year below expectations but the future seems bright for the young Roos, with a dominant record against the Demons in recent times it is hard to pick against them but like Port Adelaide and Ben Cousins they will have to overcome the emotion with the retirement of James McDonald.

Conclusion

Two evenly matched sides will make for an interesting game, the Demons have struggled in recent times against the Kangaroos but with skipper James McDonald bowing out you cannot see anything other than a Demons win.

Adelaide v Melbourne

Melbourne will head to AAMI Stadium to take on Adelaide with Melbourne football boss Chris Connolly conceding the Demons record on the road as a disgrace however they are a strong chance to break that hoodoo against the struggling Crows.

Adelaide’s season continues to go from bad to worse with the Crows suffering a 47 point thumping at the hands of Hawthorn in Tasmania. With the Crows no chance of making the finals coach Neil Craig will be desperate to show he is the man to lead the club into next season. They will have to do it without Nathan Bock who has again gone down with injury. In a positive for the Crows they have not lost to the Demons in Adelaide since 2001.

Melbourne have shown plenty of spirit this season and despite Coach Dean Baileys assesment they have only rated five out of ten you get the feeling most Demons fans would be please with what they have seen so far this season. Last game was no exception with the Demons pushing the Pies to a dramatic draw on the Queens Birthday centre stage. Unfortunately for the Demons skipper James McDonald and Colin Sylvia have failed to come up for the clash but they do regain Joel MacDonald on an extended bench.

The Demons will hold no fear going into this game but you sense the Crows have to turn around thier shocking season at some stage and their dominance against the Demons in recent years has to count for something

North Melbourne v Port Adelaide

North Melbourne take on Port Adelaide at Etihad in good form having won their last two and putting themselves back into finals contention, while the Power have suffered five consecutive defeats with their season all but over.

Inspired by a seven goal performance from Lindsay Thomas North Melbourne dominated the Blues from start to finish restricting the normally high scoring Blues to just four second half goals. North hold a slight advantage going into this game having won three of their previous five encounters however they did go down by 14 points in their round one encounter.

Port Adelaide failed to fire last week at AAMI Stadium handing the Swan’s a 38 point victory. Again injuries look to ruin any chance of victory with Brett Ebert, Steven Salopek and Hamish Hartlett all ruled out through injury. The Powers key playmakers Danyle Pearce, David Rodan and Travis Boak were well held last week and will need to find form if the Power are to get back on the winners list.

Port Adelaide just don’t look interested at this stage while North Melbourne are improving each week and have the opportunity to break into the top eight.
