Randwick Guineas – Betfair Market Update

Randwick Guineas

Randwick Guineas

The Group 1 Randwick Guineas is the feature race this weekend in Sydney. It is always a massive race, held over a distance of 1600m and this year’s field looks very talented. Betfair’s Matthew Thompson is here to provide punters with a market update and his expert tips.

Winners market:

Best backed runners

Shoot Out - Opened at $3.50, and was rock solid in betting before easing slightly. He occupies one-third of the overall market.
Monton- The last start winner has been $18 into $12.

Tips and comment by Betfair’s Mathew Thompson

Certainly not a vintage Randwick Guineas, but a competitive race none the less. I fancy the bulk of the field could develop into handy stayers.

That said, the favourite Shoot Out possesses genuine brilliance and finishes off his races like a sprinter-miler. The Queenslander hit the line brilliantly in the Hobartville Stakes, and to my eye, looks the bet of the day in Sydney.

The Gai Waterhouse trained Viking Legend is tough as teak, and although 1600 metres is short of his best distance, he’s been racing well since resuming from a spell and will be very hard to run past from an inside draw.

Hanks is a talented horse but will get a long way back and might need further to be considered a winning chance. Monton, winner of the Hobartville, was suited by the fast lane and on speed bias last start, but will go forward from a wide draw and sit on speed.

In summary, the top pick is a standout, but it’s anyone’s guess for the minors.

1 – Shoot Out
2 – Viking Legend
3 – Sir Hallowell
4 – Captain Sonador
